Malaysian MotoGP: Marc Marquez takes 80th win, Miller 16th as title lead grows to 44 points
Motorcycle News ·
Marc Marquez won the Malaysian MotoGP at Sepang on Sunday, the 80th premier-class win of his career, and moved 44 points clear in the championship with three rounds to go. Pedro Acosta was second on his KTM and Alex Marquez third. Australia’s Jack Miller had a tough afternoon and finished 16th.
How the race unfolded
Alex Marquez led the early laps before his brother took the lead back. In the second half of the 20-lap race, Acosta passed Alex and pulled away to finish 4.172 seconds behind the winner, with Alex a further 1.8 seconds back.
Behind them, Ai Ogura and Marco Bezzecchi had a physical fight for fourth that included contact between the two Aprilias. Ogura came out on top and pulled clear. Late in the race Bezzecchi ran wide, letting Enea Bastianini through for fifth.
Championship runner-up Jorge Martin, who has a wrist fracture, withdrew after struggling with the braking loads. Joan Mir, Johann Zarco, Augusto Fernandez and Diogo Moreira also failed to finish. Francesco Bagnaia was 13th.

What’s next
Round 20 is the Qatar Grand Prix at Lusail on 8 November. MCNews reports that riders want firmer safety and evacuation guarantees because of the conflict in the Middle East, though organisers say the event will go ahead. Alex Marquez may miss the round for surgery.
