This policy explains how RiderMates handles personal information when you use ridermates.com, browse motorcycle information or send us an enquiry. For privacy questions and requests, use our Contact Us page and choose “Privacy or personal information request”.
Information you provide
When you contact us or submit a request, we collect the details you enter. Depending on the form, these can include your name, email address, postcode or suburb, selected edition, motorcycle or dealer of interest, request type, message and consent. Please provide only information needed for your enquiry and do not send payment details, identity documents or sensitive personal information through general forms.
You can browse public content without submitting an enquiry. Required fields are marked on forms. If you do not provide the necessary details, we may be unable to handle your request or reply.
Information from using the website
The website uses browser storage to remember preferences such as your regional edition, colour theme and saved-bike shortlist. These preferences are stored in that browser and can be removed through its site-data settings. Our website and hosting services also process technical information needed to deliver and protect the site, such as network requests, browser information and server logs. See our Cookie Policy for more about storage and third-party content.
How we use information
- To receive and respond to enquiries, corrections, dealer listing requests and privacy requests.
- To manage requests you submit, including test-ride, quote or advertising enquiries.
- To operate, maintain and protect the website and prevent spam or misuse.
- To meet applicable legal obligations and resolve concerns.
Submitting a contact enquiry does not subscribe you to marketing. An enquiry submission does not confirm a booking, subscription, payment or purchase.
Who can receive information
Enquiries submitted through our forms are stored privately in the website’s administration system for the RiderMates team. Website hosting and technical service providers may process information as needed to operate and support that system. Where you ask us to arrange contact with a particular dealer or provider, information relevant to that request may be shared for that purpose. We may also disclose information where required or permitted by law.
Links to dealers, manufacturers, maps and other external services take you to providers with their own privacy practices. Embedded or externally hosted content can receive technical information, such as your IP address, when it loads. Consider the relevant provider’s policy before submitting information to them. A dealer directory listing does not itself mean your enquiry has been sent to that dealer.
Storage, security and retention
Personal information is stored in the website’s systems and handled by people and service providers involved in running RiderMates. Technical processing may involve services outside New Zealand; applicable privacy obligations continue to apply. No internet service can guarantee absolute security. We aim to restrict access to information to what is needed for its purpose and retain it only while needed to handle requests, operate the service or meet legal obligations.
Your rights and choices
Under New Zealand privacy law, you can ask for access to personal information we hold about you and request correction if it is inaccurate. We may need to verify your identity before releasing information. You can also ask about deletion or withdrawal of consent; we will explain any legal or practical reasons why a request cannot be fully met.
Use the contact form with the privacy topic and enough detail for us to identify your request. Do not attach identity documents at this stage. We will respond in accordance with applicable law. If you remain concerned about our handling of personal information, you can contact the New Zealand Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when website features or information practices change. The date above shows when it was last updated.
