Adelaide MotoGP gets the green light: what’s next, and when tickets could land
Motorcycle News ·

With Phillip Island’s farewell washed out, attention now turns to Adelaide. On 27 October 2026, Premier Peter Malinauskas announced that the new street circuit had received federal environmental clearance. That means construction can start in December, and the first Adelaide MotoGP can go ahead on 12–14 November 2027.
What was approved
The federal regulator assessed the $96 million Victoria Park redevelopment under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act. It ruled the project “not a controlled action” if it is carried out in a particular way. That means it can go ahead without further federal assessment, as long as the agreed environmental measures are met.
Those measures include:
- planting 10 trees for each tree removed. At least 377 trees will go, 42 of them classed as significant.
- a $15 million environmental program for the Adelaide Park Lands.
- replacing affected grassland and fencing it off for protection.
This clearance is separate from the FIM homologation the circuit still needs before racing.
What’s next
- December 2026: main construction begins, after this year’s Supercars Adelaide Grand Final. Some preliminary services work may start earlier.
- 2027: crews have less than 12 months to finish the circuit.
- 12–14 November 2027: the first Red Bull Grand Prix of Australia, the second-last round of the 2027 season. Moto2 and Moto3 are on the program too.
One caveat: the project still faces opposition. The Adelaide Park Lands Association and some residents object to the loss of parkland, the traffic and the cost, and a Federal Court challenge is ongoing. Minister for State Development Chris Picton says the government will “very strongly defend” it. Court orders could still affect the timeline.
The track

The proposed layout is 4.13 km with 15 corners. It brings back sections of the 1985–1995 Formula 1 circuit, including Stag Corner, Rundle Road, Brewery Bend and Dequetteville Terrace. Organisers estimate top speeds of about 343 km/h on Dequetteville Terrace and lap times of around 1 minute 26 seconds. Former MotoGP rider Loris Capirossi and Supercars great Mark Skaife gave input on safety.
MotoGP Deputy CEO Carlos Ezpeleta said there would be “no compromise” on safety, and that riders’ feedback on the design has been positive. Australian Senna Agius, who steps up to MotoGP in 2027, said he was “blown away” by the plans and is excited to make his MotoGP debut in Adelaide.
Adelaide has a six-year deal to host MotoGP, from 2027 to 2032, with an option for five more years. It will be the first city-centre race in the championship’s history.
